Temperatures are going down, so make sure your utility bills aren’t going to go up by keeping these handy tips in mind:

  • Natural heating: open your curtains during the daytime to let the sun’s warmth in and cut back on heater use.
  • Heading out for a little wintertime getaway? Use timers when you go on vacation instead of leaving lights burning 24/7, unplug those extra appliances, and set your computer’s sleep mode. And while you’re at it, turn your water heater to the lowest setting and turn your thermostat down too.
  • Make sure your dishwasher is nice and full when you run it, and the same goes for your washer and dryer. If you can wash your clothes in cold water, all the better – 90% of the energy used for your washing machine goes to heating the water!

Little things can add up to big savings, and it’s great to make it a habit to conserve energy by being more efficient.
